Flying KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Review
Getting to your destination should be half the fun. Flying is the way most of us get from country to country and I’ve had the distinct pleasure of flying with many different carriers over the years. Not all carriers are made the same that is to be sure. Read on for my full review on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines that I booked for my latest long haul flight to Bangkok from Canada.

I had a long haul, 2 part flight from YYZ to Amsterdam and then onto BKK which took 25 hours total. This gave me a great opportunity to get to know the airline and how they operate. Every airline has it’s own standards and methods. It’s the little things that usually end up meaning the most and this was no different with this airline.

Best Parts
- Food, glorious food. The food service was one of the best I have experienced and a very pleasant surprise on board. I had at least 3 services on my flights and each meal was hot, flavourful and served with your choice of hot or cold beverage including wine! Chicken with quinoa, barley and rice was spiced to perfection. Warm, crusty buns with butter. Dessert was a rich chocolate layered creation. Breakfast was just as good. In short it reminded me of the flights that used to be with good food and drinks included. Thankful some airlines still operate with great attention to food service.
- Overall in flight service. The flight crew was delightful, patient and kind. They seemed genuinely happy to help and to have us on board. When breakfast was served and people were sleeping, they checked row by row and only handed out food to those that were awake. The rest of the travellers were served as they woke up. A little thing but a big thing as most times you are woken up for food service or simply miss the meal. Seamless over both flights. Nicely done team <3
- Complimentary Pillow & Blanket for each guest. Again some would consider this a little thing but it’s a big thing for comfort on long haul flights. I usually drag my blanket and inflatable neck pillow along but with long term travel, hate dragging them around as much as my winter coat. This time I opted to just bring my sarong which would not have been warm enough. Thank you KLM for the little things.
Room for Improvement
- Flight Delays This was the only complaint I had with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Last minute, poorly or un communicated delays. My first flight was delayed by 45 minutes and I got the email while sitting waiting to board. The second flight from Amsterdam was over an hour late leaving and there was no communication on that other than at the gate itself. With the extra time I would have left the airport to explore but wasn’t given the opportunity.
Final Verdicts
Overall, other than the delays I really enjoyed my experience with KLM and would recommend them to everyone.
